At the PCCC Training in DC a few weeks back, I spoke with TYT Politics Reporter Nomiki Konst about my campaign in New Jersey's 4th congressional district (video below).
Some of you may know that I first garnered international attention 20 years ago when I was the first athlete in the world to say “no” to Nike because of their sweatshop abuses.
In the two decades since, I have been a grassroots warrior on a range of social justice campaigns as well as holding local office in NJ.
I am now running for Congress against Chris “No Show” Smith in NJ’s #FightingFourth district.
Here are some quick facts about Smith that I have been hammering away on with the base:
* Smith has not lived in NJ for 34 years. He has been living in northern Virginia since 1983.
* Smith has lived in Virginia for so long, his kids get in state tuition at Virginia schools.
* Smith spends less than 20% of his time in NJ as per Congressional records. The most extreme example was 2006 when he only spent 7 nights in the state of NJ.
* Smith has not had an open public town hall meeting in the district since April 1993.
It’s clearly time for Smith to go and I know I am the guy send him packing.
Please watch this video to learn more about me and my campaign, post your comments, and please share it far and wide.
