We’ve done it again (maybe)!
Like a phoenix, like a circling snake biting its tail, like an ouroboros, one Roundup overlaps another! GoodNewsRoundup’s Saturday Roundup still flies on the Rec list. It’s there because it's good, and more than 200 Kosacks agree with me. Goodie, the founder of Good News Roundups, wrote a spectacular Roundup, and if you missed it, it’s not too late to read and support it.
From Wikipedia: In Gnusticism, “a serpent biting its tail symbolized eternity and the soul of the world.” The Gnustic “Pistis Sophia (c. 400 AD) describes the ouroboros as a twelve-part dragon surrounding the world with his tail in his mouth.” 😉 [Wikipedia]
Bannon's Fall -- From Shadow POTUS To "Headlining" At A Small Town Firehouse: Saturday's Good News
It’s got reactance theory, Firehouse Steve, Blue Wave News, Russia Russia Russia, Turning Tides, Troops support for Trump Declining, NRA losing luster, and NYPD about to arrest 9 Proud Boys.
Blue Wave News
People are searching for voter registration info at presidential-year levels
People are searching “register to vote” at near-presidential-election levels — suggesting a surge in interest among less frequent voters.
“This is HUGE because TURNOUT IS OUR BEST FRIEND. That is why it is so important for all of us to be focused like laser-beams on GOTV right now!” — GoodNewsRoundup
Thanks to GoodNewsRoundup for both of these blue wave items.
The Week in Review
Once again I’ve rounded up the following list from Cheers and Jeers with homage to Bill in Portland Maine. He posts the popular Who Won the Week? poll on Friday evenings. Please enjoy his snark, vote in his poll, Rec his diary, get on his bandwagon, and send him money. His poll now has almost 2600 votes. C&J archive and future editions here. Many more than 2 thanks to our amazing Billeh!
- U.S. District Court Judge T.S. Ellis III, for ruling that convicted Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort has to wear a puke-green "I'm Guilty" prison jumpsuit from now on whenever he appears before the bench
- The electric vehicle movement, as the United States sells its one millionth electric car. (Bonus: Q3 sales are up 108% over last year)
- Canada, where marijuana sales to adults became legal across the country. Plus: PM Justin Trudeau will approve legislation allowing Canadians with pot-related convictions to apply for a pardon
- U.S. District Judge Randolph Moss, for humiliating halfwit Education Secretary Betsy DeVos in public by ruling Obama-era student loan borrower protections she'd tried to destroy must take effect immediately
- Rep. Beto O'Rourke, for defeating Ted Cruz in the last debate, and then snagging Houston Chronicle's endorsement: "one of the most impressive candidates this editorial board has encountered."
- The Daily Kos community, for raising north of $400,000 to help North Dakota Native Vote fight new voter suppression rules put in place against Native Americans by a gaggle of Republicans with one-way tickets to hell [See below — 2thanks]
- The Florida Supreme Court, for publicly humiliating Governor and world's ugliest boa constrictor Rick Scott by stopping his scheme to pack the court with all-Republican justices on the day he leaves office
- New York City, which had zero shootings last weekend, the first time that's happened in 25 years
- The protesters who spelled out the word LIAR in a Montana hillside as Trump was coming to attend a Republican "We Hate Everything America Stands For" rally
Spoiler Alert! … Top 3 items: Florida SC 23%, Daily Kos community 22%, Canada pot sales 16%
Reasons for Liking Blue Wildebeests
Darren Nash posted the blog Reasons for Really Liking Wildebeests in the Tetrapod Zoology section of Scientific American. Since it was first posted in 2014, it’s not gnu news, but it’s good gnus.
Very Gnu:
Relatively Gnu:
Oldies, Goodies:
If your rebelling needs some yelling
Election Protection: 866 Your Vote
“Have questions or problems voting? Call us at 866-OUR-VOTE! Our trained, nonpartisan volunteers are here and ready to help!”
IN YOUR STATE, RESOURCES, NEWSROOM, ABOUT, PARTNERS, VOLUNTEER, DONATE, CONTACT
(At first I thought 866 was deli-waitress-ordering jargon.)
What are you doing for the Resistance?
I’ll go first: I’m crowd-sourcing funds for the progressive candidate in the congressional district immediately north of my own. My district will be very well represented by Rashida Tlaib, and electing Haley will give Rashida an excellent Democratic partner in Congress.
Oh my gosh, Readers and Kosacks and Gnusies, look what you’ve been up to! Our fundraiser for the congressional candidate just north of my district has blown past two goals, and we are heading toward $1000. $568 donated to Haley Stevens so far. Thank you!
Haley Stevens was Chief of Staff on Obama’s auto bailout operation, and she has led “innovation programs across the country, helping small and medium-sized manufacturers grow” by harnessing new technology. I was impressed by her when she spoke at Detroit’s March for Science in 2017.
NARAL Pro-Choice America, LCV Action Fund, HRC, and AFGE have all endorsed Haley. Ballotpedia reveals many other endorsements.
Haley’s opponent is not a bad person, but like a good trumpelganger, she:
- Wants to repeal the ACA. ✔
- Chaired the sexist groper’s campaign in Michigan in 2016. ✔
- Supports every single one of the orange toadstool’s policies and everything he’s done. ✔
Please help us by donating on our Daily Kos ActBlue page for Haley Stevens. Thank you, dear Readers, Kosacks, Gnusies, and Friends, you are so mag!
Haley Stevens: ActBlue, website, Ballotpedia, FaceBook, and Twitter. (MI-11.)
All the gnus that’s fit to print
As you may know, I create a potluck style of Roundup due to family commitments. I therefore ask you, my friends, to please bring your national Good News to this Sunday potluck.
I suggest that you pop in later and/or several times today to see the gnus our commenters have herded to today’s Roundup.
How to bring your Good Gnus here
- What’s your take on Good News for the nation?
- What are you doing to turn your rage and frustration into action?
Power with, not power over,
2thanks
P.S. — As Goodie said yesterday about Voting Day in her spectacular Roundup:
- “Act like the future of the world is at stake.
- “Act like we have a great chance of winning if you do your best.”
Update 1: Added Election Protection: 866 Your Vote and made minor changes.
Update 2: Changed the last sentence under “Reasons for Liking Blue Wildebeestes”
Update 3: Woooohoooo! $618 for Haley? Get outa here! Thank you!
