Well, it finally happened in plain sight—sort of. As we all know, a U. S. resident and columnist for the “Washington Post,” Jamal Khashoggi, walked into the Saudi consulate on October 2, never to be seen of or heard from again. Poof, he vanished into thin air!
After weeks of lying and fabrications, a portion of the truth came out when the Saudis, reluctantly, admitted in the lamest of the most lame communiques, that Khashoggi had been killed in a “skirmish” with who knows who in the consulate. And, guess what, Tramp accepted it. Really?
However, what’s the real genesis of this horrific event? Autocracies around the world are known for their stifling of freedom of the press. Imprisonment, torture, and even death are commonplace in these insidious countries, but not until the election of the most odious, hateful person on the planet have these ever been issues that our great country may face one day!
He has created an extraordinarily hostile environment towards the news media in America by incessantly blathering when what’s reported doesn’t fit his narrative that it’s “fake news,” and reporters are “the enemies of the people” to the point where members of the press are now held in incredibly low esteem. He has greenlighted the intimidation, threatening, bullying of journalists, and, yes; perhaps, their killing in the not too distant future.
The world is watching and following his lead but he doesn’t have the capacity to comprehend the damage he has already done, and will continue to do unless he’s stopped. Even if he did, it wouldn’t make a twit of difference to him!
America has always set the tone for civility, honor, honesty, and especially freedom of the press in the world. We have always been its leader. That ceased on November 8, 2016. When will this madness end?
