The mining town of Garnet was established in Montana’s Garnet Mountains in 1895. Today it is a ghost town managed in a state of arrested development by the Bureau of Land Management and the Garnet Preservation Association. Many of the displays in the ghost town contain old photographs showing life in the old mining town. Some of these old photographs are shown below.
Shown above is the Miner’s Union Hall, a building which no longer exists. Dances were held in the hall every Saturday night—it had one of the finest dance floors in Montana—and there were several social functions each week. The union was strong and dealt effectively with the mine owners.
