When I was a kid my ultimate dream of knowing I made it was when I could own a Ford F-150 pick up truck, black, with an extended bed and cab. I waited years and years, going in and out of grad school for my MS and Ph.D. before I finally was able to afford one. And guess what happened? Within a year of getting it I had to give it up as I could no longer drive for health reasons.
Doh.
So now I am buying a very, very, did I say very? used auto for me and my brother to use when he comes back from China. He usually comes back once or twice a year, for the last 25 years or so, from where he is currently living in Mainland China. He moved there at first to teach English, but since then his job areas have been varied and far different from just teaching English. He comes back, decides he has had enough of China and moves back here. That holds for a few months when he goes back and the cycle repeats itself. He is happy just not content, if that makes any sense. Anyway when he comes here he has no car, of course, and since I have no ability to drive for the health reasons I have none, either. So we waste a lot of billage on various forms of transport, etc.
his year we decided to buy an early 2000s car. Type/manufacturer was open he just wanted something without a huge number of miles on it, reliable, and good enough to get him from Detroit where his family and some friends are, to Chicago where other friends are, back and forth a few times and then we will decide if after a few months if we want to re-sell it OR keep it for the next years go-around.
As I mentioned I have a preference for Ford, but that does not mean I have always driven one or would have to make this one a Ford.. it just turned out we got a 2003 Explorer.
So doing all of this, and being from Detroit, it got me interested in what your go to manufacture of car is?
