I hoped that Roy Moore would just go away after losing to now-Senator Doug Jones. Unfortunately, even with numerous reports of Moore’s sexual predation of young women, he just can’t keep his mouth shut.
He unsurprisingly defended fellow predatory comrade Judge Brett Kavanaugh recently, but that’s not all Moore has on his mind. Moore and his wife have been messaging schools all over the state to get prayer back to *checks notes* high school football games.
Moore held a press conference in Montgomery on Friday to trumpet that message and further spotlight his effort to contact school systems across the state and explaining how they could be legally clear to have prayer before games.
Moore said that if students, free of influence from school officials, wish to pray over a loudspeaker before games, the law permits it.
"Nobody stands up for the students of this state and we're going to do that," Moore said at the press conference.
The thought of Moore positioning himself as some savior of high school students makes my skin crawl. Who is trusting this guy with a list of the addresses for the high schools in the state?! Oh, yeah, his complicit wife.
To make it even more disturbing, Moore is offering to work with high schools to make policies for the students. Excuse my suspicion that Moore doesn’t really think that praying before football games is that important.
While Moore says this is about “religious liberty,” he also said he wouldn’t support any non-Christian prayers.
At the press conference, Moore was asked about a student-led prayer recognizing a religion other than Christianity.
"I wouldn't support it," Moore said of the prayer itself. "I wouldn't encourage it. But would it be allowable? It would be religious freedom. That's given by God. And it has nothing to do with restriction by the schools. They can't restrict that.
Sounds like Moore just wants to help a select few force themselves to onto the ears of an unsuspecting audience whether they like it or not.
Sound familiar?
