Kevin Yoder knows that he is in a dog fight with Democratic Candidate and Daily Kos endorsed candidate Sharice Davids in Kansas third. The smell of desperation is thick, and his friends at the CLF — Congressional Leadership Fund — got caught with a fear mongering ad contending Sharice Davids was “scary”. That scared mom — none other than Kansas Republican Party Secretary Alana Roethle. From Mother Jones:
Alana Roethle claims she’s worried about keeping her community safe. In “Risky,” a 30-second video ad released on Friday, the concerned mother of four warns that Sharice Davids, an openly gay Native American woman vying to unseat Kansas Republican Rep. Kevin Yoder, supports “an extreme agenda that would put families at risk.”
Yet Roethle and the ad’s backer, the Congressional Leadership Fund, failed to disclose that she’s been secretary for the Kansas Republican Party since January 2017. The state party’s website also notes that Roethle was an alternate delegate to the 2016 Republican National Convention, that she attended President Donald Trump’s inauguration, and that she’s been active in state GOP politics since 2010.
While the CLF dismissed the problematic use of the actor, it is old hat for Kevin Yoder followers — because he’s done this before. Repeatedly.
Kevin Yoder, fake parent and dog owner
In this 2010 ad, Kevin Yoder is seen walking with his family, two cute kids, spouse and dog as he talks about why electing him would be great for Kansas. Slight problem: none of it was real. From The Pitch:
Except those aren't Yoder's children.
If you just watched the video and didn't know any better, you'd think these were Yoder's kids.
They're not. They're likely his nieces and nephew (or models hired for cuteness).
This tactic isn't new for Yoder, who's running for Dennis Moore's congressional seat. Two of the girls and a dog appeared in Yoder's campaign literature when he was running for re-election to the Kansas House a few years back. Even the dog wasn't Yoder's.
Within a week of the video going up on YouTube, Yoder accused Democrat Stephene Moore of being "disingenuous with voters."
That’s right. Yoder’s use of fake settings isn’t new. While several online news magazines and commentators are paying attention, Yoder’s excuse, as provided to Mother Jones is the same: “Ignore the details”
Asked about the missing disclosure, SuperPAC communications director Courtney Alexander told the Daily Beast, “Party affiliation does not change the reality that Sharice Davids wants to abolish ICE.”
This time, however, Representative Yoder may face a knock out punch..
Progress is undefeated - but we have to fight for it. I hope you’ll join me by investing in this historic campaign.
