As a person who suffers daily from constant invasions on my life, my intelligence, and my sanity, I can’t but wonder why we are so passive about advertising.
My phone is constantly invaded, my tablet wastes a lot of my time on a daily basis with this idiocy, and my recent experience on YouTube has been insufferable. I know you want me to subscribe to whatever you want me to subscribe to, but I don’t need it and I don’t want it. So you drive me nuts by cutting into a video, no just once at the beginning, but an additional 4-5 times spaced just minutes apart.
Do corporations have a complete right to pester us with all this drivel?
Do I have any rights to say “I don’t want it:?
The postal service won’t even let me opt out of the weekly load of ads and coupons!
A couple of additional ideas, one from my beloved Greta — why does the economy always have to grow. It’s killing us. Can’t we just live together and take care of each other without having to buy the latest technology or the latest fashion.
Lastly, has anyone given thought to the fact that advertising has an overweight effect on the climate crisis. Think about it.
I’ve tried at least five times to start a petition in favor of, at the very least, to outlaw the advertising of prescription drugs. It’s clear to me that the populace doesn’t care because no one ever signed any of my petitions.
I’m a humanist and a minimalist. I’m still looking for ways to avoid the daily onslaught of titillating idiocy. I’d love to wean off my devices completely, but this is literally impossible in the texture of our current society.
