Watching our asterisk’s public appearances lately, I imagine his EEG would be a good metaphor for the image of Dorian Grey. Today was interesting- now the person who swore to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution is calling it “phony”. We read more and more how in private, everyone admits he’s losing it.
Now, we all know it’s NOT GONNA HAPPEN, but let’s pretend for a moment that the Cabinet voted to invoke the 25th Amendment and declare *resident Trump unfit for office. Certainly, it is within the rights of the President to challenge such a declaration, and the procedures are laid out after that, but would he bother?
Constitutionally speaking would he even have to? I bring this up because so much of the current Cabinet is “Acting” only. There authority to order the change of a lightbulb is suspect, but to remove a President?
We need a law to ensure that Senate confirmable positions are held by people who have been confirmed by the Senate. I know there is a limit to how long an “Acting” head can act, but the President needs to appoint permanent people within a reasonable period of time, and if an appointee isn’t confirmed by the time the “acting” term expires, the job should go to the highest ranking non-political appointee at the agency.
