A new Emerson poll released tonight shows Senator Amy Klobuchar surging in Iowa- still in 5th place, but in double digits for the first time and only two points behind Elizabeth Warren,
The poll shows Biden 23, Sanders 22, Buttigieg 18, Warren 12, Klobuchar 10,
I have long been hoping Klobuchar would become a serious contender, as she might be the strongest general election candidate. She has won three senate elections by an average margin of 26 points, in a state Hillary Clinton won by just 1 point. She speaks well, has a great sense of humor, and has been responsible for passing a tremendous amount of good legislation. She is not the most liberal Democrat but is progressive, and the fascist in the white house would find her a very disagreeable opponent, difficult to effectively attack.
I am afraid of the November outcome if the Democratic candidate has an unpopular position on what should be our best issue, healthcare (Sanders, Warren), or has made statements that offend blacks (Buttigieg), or does not campaign well (Biden).
This is only one good poll and Amy still has a long way to go, but to those who think she has no chance, I would point out that in December 2003, John Kerry was in 5th place with 4%, and in December 1975, Jimmy Carter was polling under 1%. There is still time for Amy to win Iowa!
