Bill Clinton was famously advised by the infamous Dick Morris that he could boost his popularity by providing loudly publicized solutions to small issues that nevertheless affect large numbers of voters.
In this vein, I am asking Nancy Pelosi to support a bill requiring that credit card statements should for each item specify precisely what was purchased. Obviously Ms. Pelosi is a very busy person. All she needs to do is ask a staff member to find a few congresspeople who will introduce and support the bill.
It's a small thing, but every month I puzzle over some of the line items in my credit card bill, and would find it very helpful to have a description of what was purchased.
And amid all the sturm und drang surrounding Donald Trump, would be nice to do little gestures that will show voters that Democrats are trying to provide solutions to everyday problems.
UPDATE: Based on comments as of 12:01 EST 2019/03/21, I have third thoughts. Providing product description would indeed be too labor intensive and difficult. But going a giant step forward, it would be very helpful to require the name of seller on each listing on the credit card bill, and this should not be technically hard to do. A further giant step would be a link to the receipt, though this would require merchants to keep receipts online. Much as Amazon does. That has helped so much to make Amazon such an overwhelming success.
Sellers of embarrassing products might make their receipts sufficiently cryptic to prevent embarrassment if someone other than the purchaser views the receipt.
Alternatively, maybe better, if purchaser wants to see receipts, restrict this to online viewing of statements accessed only via password, to prevent persons other than the purchaser from viewing descriptions of purchases. This is exactly what is currently done by Amazon, streets ahead of other retailers.
Something else: My supermarket (Shoprite) now emails me a receipt of whatever I purchase… way to go !!!
