I am going to have to split the News Round-up today into two parts. The AM pre-release edition and the PM post-release edition.
Bill Barr is speaking today, I put up the link to the livestream here.
If you like having your news gathered for you from various sources, please continue to recommend these Round-Ups and consider buying me a coffee on Ko-fi.com. It helps me continue to write, homeschool, and run the political news aggregate page.
As always, there will be a thread below for new or breaking news. And please, share any thoughts you have below.
NEWS STORIES
The End Of Empathy -- (NPR) And this, honestly, is what scares me. We reserve that empathy for our own "tribe" and not all people. This is why there is joy in the suffering of immigrants. This is why people shrug at the plight of an abused woman married to a white nationalist. We have to REMEMBER to be better than this.
Medicare for All Critics Are Telling Lies -- (Jacobin) One of the biggest lies is that Employer based health insurance is somehow better. It's not. It can change at the discretion of the employer (generally to save money) and the insurance company itself acts as a panel to block your care. Imagine having the ability to choose your doctor, choose a hospital to have surgery in, and not have an insurance company dictate that you have to use medicine that doesn't work or that the extra day in the hospital to pin-point pain is forbidden. THAT is what we can achieve with single-payer.
We must ensure US public lands stay public, or risk ‘demolition of society’ -- (Guardian) This is part of the problem with electing a businessman. The entire country is now the commodity, and his friends are piecing out the most treasured area for money to their friends. Protecting the land from greed and saving it so future generations can live, survive, and thrive should be paramount. Instead, it's all about who can be the most corrupt and put the most money in their pockets.
Attorney says Cohen can 'fill in the bulk' of Mueller report redactions -- (The Hill) Cohen probably sees this as an opportunity to delay prison and earn grace points again, but who can blame him. Expose the corruption.
How to Download the Mueller Report: Special Counsel's Final Document -- (Newsweek) It should be available at noon today. Barnes and Noble is offering it as a free Nook download. And then the fun begins...
