One reading recommendation today. At the New York Review of Books, Adam Tooze writes Democracy and Its Discontents, a review of four recent titles on the creeping erosion of democracy in the United States and Europe. It's a fairly lengthy and complex essay -- as you might imagine from the number of titles being discussed. Hard to find a representative paragraph, so I'm only going to offer the link.
The titles reviewed are, Mounk, The People vs. Democracy: Why Our Freedom is in Danger and How to Save It; Levitsky and Ziblatt, How Democracies Die; Snyder, The Road to Unfreedom: Russia, Europe, America; and, Runciman, How Democracy Ends.
