Dear Madam Speaker:
I know that you have been trying to douse the flames of impeachment because you feel it would be damaging to the Democratic Party in 2020. You want to have a consensus of the American Public onboard with the process before you begin any hearings.
I do not believe that we need Robert Mueller, or anyone else for that matter, to provide proof of Obstruction of Justice or any other criminal behavior. We do not need to prove to anyone that Trump is guilty of a crime and is therefore subject to impeachment.
Trump is guilty of one thing in particular and that has nothing to do with Collusion, Obstruction or anything else. He is guilty of violating his oath of Office and THAT is what should form the basis of any impeachment hearing.
In January of 2017 Trump uttered the words “I do solemnly swear that I will preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States”
Trump has repeatedly violated that Oath.
Over the last two and a half years Trump has attacked the freedom of the press as outlined in the first amendment. Even going so far as to call the Press the enemy of the people.
He has, through executive orders sought to bypass laws and policies set by Congress. He has tried to bypass Court Orders. This behavior is in direct violation of the Separation of Powers guaranteed by the Constitution. He has failed to submit, and has order his cabinet not to submit to any Congressional oversight of his administration and to ignore legally obtained subpoenas.
He is violating the separation clause of the Constitution by enforcing policies based on religion such as his Muslim ban.
In voicing support for Dictators like Putin, he is providing aid and comfort to our enemies.
His immigration policies and his sanctioned raids against immigrants violate the due process clause of our constitution and in many cases, sanctions unlawful searches and seizures.
He continues to violate the rules against emoluments.
He abandons treaties that were approved by Congress without consulting Congress.
Trump has no love and no understanding of our Constitution. He has obviously never read it and therefore he has no ability or desire to protect or defend it. Forget the fact that very few people have read the Mueller report including members of Congress. I am willing to bet that many people in politics have never read the Constitution. But as any prosecutor will tell you, “Ignorance of the law is not an excuse”.
So Madam Speaker, we do not need Mueller or anyone to testify in order to provide an opportunity to move forward with impeachment. We only have to replay Trump’s oath of office and then in a straight forward and direct way, provide the easily available evidence that Mr. Trump has violated that oath. The GOP impeached Clinton, ostensibly for lying under oath regarding an affair with an Intern. Trump’s own words, recorded for prosperity at his rallies and in his Tweets should provide all the evidence you need, to prove that Trump has lied under oath, and that is the oath he took on January 20th, 2017.
