I know I’m pretty late in posting this since it happened over two weeks ago. I got bogged down by personal issues. I also procrastinated because this particular rally in DC was pretty puny compared to other May Day rallies in other cities around the world. I later read on various Twitter feeds that many of the Occupy DC activists had opted to go to New York for the larger May Day rally that was put on by Occupy Wall Street. On top of it, it rained earlier that day so much of the ground was muddy.
The Occupy DC rally took place in the part that’s officially known as Meridian Hill Park and unofficially as Malcom X Park. I took a few photos with my smartphone. These photos not only show the turnout but there was also a festival atmosphere with carnival-style booths.
More photos and a video after the jump...
The highlight of the rally was this giant snake puppet. I took a still photo of the puppet but I also shot a short video in order to give you an idea as to the number of people and the logistics required to operate it.
The participants in the rally marched down to the White House. I opted not to participate in the march because it was so small plus I was feeling physically tired. Instead I walked back to the nearest Metro. As I was walking through the park I found a button lying down on the ground. I picked it up and took it home with me. This is what the button looked like.
