Pre-emptive Meme Busting: Nov.3

Mon Nov 01, 2004 at 10:11:38 AM PDT

I sense Kerry will win. You may or may not agree with me, but lets just assume I'm right. I think starting Nov.3 (assuming its a clean win) we need to work hard to destroy the nasty Republican memes that are inevitable.

Please use this as a forum to think of ways to combat them.

More below the fold-

   1. No one likes Kerry. People just voted for him because they hated Bush.

This is the most likely meme, and the most damaging, because it will affect the mid-terms profoundly. David Brooks' NYT times editorial on this is probably already f*@king written, and I'm sure MoDo has at least two clever-quips taped to her cork board.  I think the most effective response is "Kerry won in the largest turnout in modern history. He has received more votes than Bill Clinton and Ronald Reagan at the height of their popularity." (if that's true.)

   2. The Terrorists Have Won.

Obviously I hate this one, and it's so ridiculous, but it needs to be addressed. This is more likely on the Hannity, Rush, Drudge end of the spectrum. I actually think the best response to this is to catch OBL. I'm not sure that just moral outrage at the statement will work, since anyone that would say it is not "reality-based."

   3. Kerry Won't Be able to Govern a Divided Nation

This one is up to Kerry. I think he can. I don't think we're that divided, I just think the corporate media has discovered a profit center in pusing the division. Kerry can, and has to overcome this.

-Just a starter. Any thoughts on how to bust these meme's before they start?
