Rep. Alexander Still On Ballot; Sign-Up Reopened

Mon Aug 23, 2004 at 01:31:14 PM PDT

Louisiana Representative Rodney Alexander may have tried to screw over the Democratic party when he switched to the Republican party  earlier this month at the ballot deadline, but a judge in Louisiana isn't having any of it.

According to CNN, sign up for the ballot will be reopened, meaning that a new Democratic challenger can get on the ballot.  From the article:

A judge called Rep. Rodney Alexander's last-minute switch to the Republican Party an attempt to subvert the election process and ordered that the sign-up period be reopened for new candidates for Congress.

Alexander infuriated Democrats this month when he switched to the GOP just minutes before the deadline for getting on the ballot. The move made it virtually impossible for the Democrats to field a promising candidate to run against Alexander.

"Mr. Alexander has attempted to subvert the electoral process for his own personal gain. His action deprived voters of the right to vote for a Democratic candidate," said District Judge Allen Edwards, a Democrat.

The judge did not throw Alexander off the ballot, as the Democrats had asked. He did not immediately set a new deadline for the sign-up period.

Perhaps the best part of the article is when the GOP whines that the judge was mean when he said that Alexander subverted the process.  Poor Republicans.  They're so used to the media getting on their knees, it must be a real bitch when someone calls them out for the assholes they are (in this instance).

They did this like pathetic cowards and they can just shut up now and take a little verbal abuse for what was basically a chickenshit move.
