Democracy Hypocracy w/Poll

Alright, so the assault weapons ban has lapsed because Republicans in Congress do not agree with it. At the same time, there are polls that show a great majority across the nation think the ban should be renewed. Even 80% of Texans (those crazy gun lovers) think it should be renewed!

Why is this hypocritical? Because weeks ago during the Federal Marriage Amendment debate, we heard from Republicans about how we should LET THE PEOPLE DECIDE! Yet the polls show that many, MANY more people agree with the assault weapons ban than agreed with the gay marriage ban. After all, you could get killed by one of these guns, but how will the gay couple down the street affect you?

OK, so it should now be obvious that the GOP doesn't care what normal people want. They only care about political games that force their opponents to make difficult decisions. When will the general public wake up to this fact?? The Flag Burning amendment is just another link in their arsenal of tricks.

So why do we let the GOP control the debate? Why aren't Democrats out there putting forward new measures that favor us, and cause them problems instead of always having to play defense?
