Bush Applies Religious Litmus Test

Via Robert in Wisconsin, Bush Applies A Religious Litmus Test:

President Bush said Wednesday that Harriet Miers' religious beliefs figured into her nomination to the Supreme Court as a top-ranking Democrat warned against any "wink and a nod" campaign for confirmation.

"People are interested to know why I picked Harriet Miers," Bush told reporters at the White House. "Part of Harriet Miers' life is her religion."

What about Ms. Miers' religion inspired Bush to nominate her? It is unbelievable that the President of the United States has chosen to apply a religious litmus test to the Supreme Court.

While no one should be excluded from public office because of their religious views, no one should be chosen for public office, especially for the Supreme Court, BECAUSE of their religious views.

This is extremely troubling. And, unfortunately, the Senate will NOW, because of President Bush's outrageous conduct, have to delve into Ms. Miers' religious views.

And it is the President who is totally to blame for this.
