When we look at the typical tactics used by Republicans to spread their message, words like
deceit, corruption, collusion, favoritism, and criminality come to mind. I'd like to add
got no game to that list.
Why such a slangy offbeat phrase? Well, let's take a look at the most recent letter from Sen. Rick Santorum (R-PA) to subscribers on his email list (emphasis added):
Dear Mr. Person,
Two minutes. That's all I ask. Please take two minutes right now to read why next year's elections are critical and how you can help protect the future of our Commonwealth and our nation. The clock is ticking - you must act today.
Here we are more than 10 months out from Election Day and already the race is on for the next year's U.S. Senate election.
The word is out and liberal Democrats such as John Kerry, Hillary Clinton, Howard Dean and dangerous MoveOn.org are pulling out every stop to get their candidate elected and to defeat me. Last fundraising quarter, they even refused to stop fundraising in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, showing Casey cares little about doing what's right.
And now as we approach the end of year fundraising deadline, they're working to claim they have the momentum. Together, we'll prove them wrong. More, we'll show Pennsylvanians deserve better than a candidate running on his famous last name alone.
Can you contribute today? With your support, we'll begin 2006 with a running start to VICTORY!
I want you to know that attacks on me and the assault on our Commonwealth energize me for the campaign ahead. No doubt it will be tough, but we are going to win.
What the liberal attacks mean, however, is we're going to have to work harder and campaign stronger to get the word out about my long-standing commitment to a better Pennsylvania. To do that, I need your help, and I need it before the end of the year.
Contribute Today before the crucial end of year dealine.
Why are such renowned liberals coming to Pennsylvania? And why am I the bulls-eye on their target?
Liberal Democrats want to set the American agenda, and they're determined to try harder and campaign smarter in hope of claiming a majority in Congress. Make no mistake: it's not about their allegiance to Bob Casey, Jr.
We must be united as we prepare for the likes of MoveOn.org, Michael Moore, and billionaire George Soros, among others, to come on stronger and angrier in Pennsylvania next year in their pursuit for power.
Just one click, and you can rest easy knowing you've stopped the liberal attack machine and made a positive investment in the future of our Commonwealth. Every contribution right now, no matter the size, will mean the difference.
I appreciate your support. Please forward this message to everyone you know. Together, we'll show we have the momentum going into 2006.
Enjoy your week,
Rick Santorum
With the highlights this looks like your traditional Republican fundraising letter. Now, take a look at it without them. Do you see any substance? Do you see any information about Ricky, his voting record, his stand on the issues, any kind of comparison of him to the other candidates?
Of course not, because Ricky and the Republicans don't have any advantage. They have nothing to brag about. They have nothing in their pocket that the public would support.
In other words, they have "no game". Another way to say it has been used by Molly Ivins to describe Bush himself: All hat, no cattle.
Remember that when a dittohead starts talking about Ricky, or Linc Chafee, or Conrad Burns, or any other Republican Senate candidate up for election this year. They don't do anything but bitch bitch bitch.
