Bush estimates that 30,000 Iraqis have been killed

in the American occupation of Iraq and the resulting insurgency.

And, that's how it's being reported pretty much everywhere.  "President Bush offered encouragement to war-weary Iraqis on Monday but acknowledged they have paid a heavy price 30,000 dead as a result of the U.S.-led invasion and its bloody aftermath."  

So, where did he get this number from?  Are there estimates from other sources that are more -- reality-based?  

Nothing in MSM, far as I can tell.  The question is not even brought up.  Guess they are so amazed that Bush actually answered questions, that they are afraid to analyze his answers.
