The conversion from `me' to `we' should be as simple as turning the `m' upside down...but that's not the case, is it?
The first thing to point out is that `we' doesn't exist. Currently it's a game of `us vs. them'.
We are human. Unfortunately for society that's about as far as `we' goes with our `humanity' often taking a backseat to the `team'... the team du juor that is.
It boggles the mind to think the one thing we all have in common is the first thing to get flushed down the memory hole the moment another member of our species attaches a different label to us.
Ironically, our humanity takes a backset to the label even though the label doesn't make us any less human.
Human though we may be, we don't seem to respect humanity as much as we respect power and authority.
People with power and authority are worthy of respect, humans are a dime a dozen...even though humans that are powerful and vested with authority are just the same as everyone else...in reality that is. What fools believe is an entirely different matter.
So it is that we spend our days sizing one another up, deciding who deserves our courtesy and respect while diss'ing whoever doesn't.
This has become quite a busy two-way street, a street that leads directly to `us vs. them'.
On one side of the street we have those who value the humanity of others equally regardless of their station in life, on the other side are those who judge others by their `usefulness'.
In between are the masses who divide those they see into `better' and `lesser', a thoughtless bunch obsessed with maintaining their perceived place in society where humanity never even enters the equation.
Perhaps the greatest enemy of `we' is the all too human trait of pigeonholing everyone we know and everyone we meet into neat mental categories...a process that dehumanizes us all.
To make matters worse consider the ease with which the word `we' can be substituted for the word `I'.
99.9% of the time when someone invokes the word `We' what they are really saying is `I'.
Given the importance of unity, of membership in our species, of the need to be on the same page to maintain a functioning society, is it wise to abandon the word `we'?
If `we' doesn't include all mankind then there is no `we', just `us'...and them.
What does it take to convince you that `we' is the most important word in our language?
Some will never accept `we' as being more important that `I' and there is a name for that type of person, they are called anti-social.
Just as important as the word `we' is the word `ours'. Without `we' `ours' doesn't exist, `ours' is lost to the word `mine'.
It should come as no surprise to you good citizen that you are living (if that's what you want to call it) in a world where `we' doesn't exist.
This is a world of hatred, labels, and unspeakable cruelty fostered by those who pit `us' against `them'.
If this is how those perceived to be better than us rule society then it's no wonder the societies of the world are plagued with problems.
Understand your position good citizen, if there is no `we' then you are on your own.
In a world without we you are forced to join `us' (whatever camp aligns most closely with your multitude of identities) and become hopelessly embroiled in the fray against the assorted them.
Now it's going to get confusing. If those of us who value `we' were to join together, what do you suppose this group should do?
Is raising awareness enough to change how `they' think?
Certainly the battle for `we' is a worthy one. Society is in such a wretched state largely due to ignorance, a general lack of awareness that `we' is being threaten with extinction.
The word `we' is invoked constantly but it is done out of context for usually `we' has been substituted for `us' or `I'.
It is here that the `imprecision of speech' has wreaked havoc on the very roots of society.
There is no shortage of those who would speak (or think) for us, only a dearth of those who would speak on humanity's behalf.
In order for there to be a `we' our collective humanity must come first. Those who place their own interests ahead of the interests on humanity are committing a crime.
Face it good citizen, our justice system relies on universality, what applies to one applies to all. If ownership provides any human with an advantage over any other then a crime has been committed, a crime against humanity.
There can be no `we' so long as anyone is permitted to place their own interests ahead of the interests of humanity and there can be no `our' so long as anyone is permitted to say `mine'.
You or yours will never be secure in your person so long as any individual (or group) has the ability to deprive you of your birthright, the bounty of this planet.
This is the difference `we' makes. We are all humans and we all have rights, not just some of us!
Weak or strong, rich or poor, smart or well, no so smart there is no `us' and there is no `them' for `we' are all human...
Thanks for letting me inside your head,
Gegner
