I read the Diaries here at The Daily Kos regularly throughout the day. 5, 8, sometimes 20 times a day I will click back and see what's new. I've seen time and again that people stay on top of things. Breaking news is here faster than it can be found on
Google, and the writing here is sometimes downright brilliant. So, I thought about what this Diary could be about. My first choice was to write something about meaningful tax reform which could begin with the removal of the
10% Penalty on premature distributions for people below certain income levels. Too many times I've seen that penalty hit people hard. And for the most part, hit people who could least afford it and needed that distribution to survive.
Next I thought about writing about Horse Racing again because even though I make money from taxes, I don't really love it but I do love Horse Racing.
And then I had a brilliant idea: See Below for more
Why not do a Diary on a really important news issue? One that showed a huge popularity and multiple hits with a Google News search. So I thought of what was really important going on in the Nation and the World today and tried a few searches to see what was most popular:
Presidential Incompetence was the first try and I only came up with 616 hits. I would think Presidential incompetence would be a huge story but I guess only Presidential blow jobs are.
On that note, I chose Rumsfeld Sucks. Dang, only 8 hits on that one. And these aren't even in quotation marks. OK, so I guess Rumsfeld Sucks isn't really news but reality.
Then thinking of reality, I tried what seems to be the number one story here in the New York/New Jersey area with the mainstream media outlets, Molly the Cat. 793 stories. Well, Molly was rescued so I guess that's not really news any longer.
I attempted Bush Lies and got 4140 hits and then Republican Corruption and that had 4870 hits.
But the winner, and the rest of what this Diary shall be about, were stories on Horse Racing with a solid 6090 hits.
A review of last weeks picks showed I gave out two solid winners and if you had read the comments, you would have seen this:

However, in the Illinois Derby, I think you need to take a look at Sweetnorthernsaint......

I wasn't so sure about Sweetnorthernsaint myself for reasons related to the Big Race on the First Saturday of May but those of you who paid attention to that comment and plunked a few bucks down on that fine animal must have been very happy! So a big thanks to eafredel and much good karma.
This week is once again packed full of good races with a couple being shown on broadcast TV. I'm too cheap to get TVG on satellite or ESPN on cable ( I tell everyone it's because I don't want the kids watching too much TV) so I love it when there's a race or two on NBC or ABC. This weeks races:
The Bluegrass Stakes at Keeneland - First Samurai is the Horse that is going to take all the money. Well, maybe not all but enough to lower his odds to possible Bridgejumper status. Going to be a lot of sad people tearing up their tickets with that Horse seeing as how he doesn't need to overexert himself here. Instead, the Winner is: Bluegrass Cat! Add in Court Folly because any Horse that has part of my real name in it deserves to be played and Strong Contender. For those of you who enjoy live longshots, pay particular attention to Sadler's Trick.
Next up is The Arkansas Derby at Oaklawn Park - A really nice size field and Lawyer Ron will be the Post Time Favorite and probable Winner. He is by far the superior Horse in this field. Ahhh but this is Horse Racing and anything can happen, so bearing that in mind we will also be playing around with combinations including Steppenwolfer and Red Raymond. For those longshot players, I'd suggest not wasting any money here but if you're so inclined, try out Nob Hill Deelite.
An added bonus this weekend for those of you in the Atlanta area is the Georgia Cup Hurdle Part of the activities at the Atlanta Steeplechase in Kingston, GA. Personally, I love the jumpers and try to get to Saratoga and Far Hills when they're scheduled to run.
