Well Ron Jr. that is. You see after whitnessing the non-fillabuster by our supposed progressive party members I found my self realizing the importance of a Ron Jr. statement from June of last year. I have learned that, yes we as a nation will, and cannot, embrace a true progressive agenda in this country in my lifetime!
More on the flip..
Let me start with this quote by Ron Reagan Jr. It is from a NYT Magazine article in 2004, shortly after his father's death. The first question...well it sums up my whole reason to give up on theDKOS community and your supposed "progressive" agenda.
The question...
Now that the country is awash in Reagan nostalgia, some observers are predicting that you will enter politics. Would you like to be president of the United States?
Ron's response.
I would be unelectable. I'm an atheist. As we all know, that is something people won't accept.
When I read this I shouted out "finally!" Someone has stated the obvious! But wow and how ignorant and naive I am...
You see Ron Jr. is absolutely right on.
American's and the people living in 3rd world counties, such as Iraq and Afghanistan, have very similar views on the world. Even though America is a cornerstone of technological, Medical, and social advancement we still believe there is some all Mighty Being that looks down upon us and makes everything ok. Just like mom and dad did when we we were children.
So as a result. A person who accepts the world this way are damaged. And as a result the people who actually make a difference in this world, by their ability to grasp the world in a reasonable and rational matter, will never be able to hold the presidency of the United States.
Does that surprise anyone on this site here? I wonder. Because it should.
Why should an atheist be unelectable?
Really? In my mind an atheist would be the best thing for this country. It would usher in an administration that would want to restore facts and truths back into our economic, forigng affairs, and every other facect of our society. What does an atheist have to gain? Shit everyone who believe's in Jesus, or whatever God, thinks that there is something better on the other side. An Atheist says there isn't anything in the sky! It all matters right here right now! There aren't any repeals in the "after life!"
Apparently the Dempcratic party is not much different than the Republican party. That is, ohh well if we fuck up now, well I love Jesus and I will still have a life in eterenity in heavean with God...
Really. Is this Nation made up of grown adults who gave up the belief in Santa Clause, but still live their lives "unselfishly" in the hopes that the next life will be better.
After my discussions with a few people on this site, it appears that Ron Jr. was dead on!
I thought a progressives community looked out for the people here on Earth and that the actions we all take as a community may affect the next generation, and the overall well being of Humanity.
I have learned that we may have progressed with our advancement in medicine, and transportation, societal structure, and I guess you can say energy. But we have certainly not progressed one step in our emotional well being.
Our ability to face the reality that this Unervise has presented us seems to be a distant reality. It's not the 1st Century here. Yet apparently the bulk of the users on this site still subscribe to the writings of men who would praise the wheel barrel as a technological advancement.
So we as a society turn on our TV's and watch talking heads compare Osama Bin Laden, a Muslim Cleric, to Michael Moore, an American movie producer and writer, as one in the same. Sadly the bulk of this Country doesn't bat an eye.
Why? Well you are all apparently equally as capable of reading the New Testament, Old Testament, and the Qu'ran and seem to have no problem with the Incredible amount of death and destruction that is layed upon humans by a merciful God. And if they shall not submit to the "relivation"...well fill in the blank with what ever horribly brutal crime against humanity every committed upon this Earth here___
That is why there is a majority of this population in the good `ol US of A that actually likes Scott McClellan. They don't see anything contradictory with what he says. It's really not much different from the contradictions apparently every Christian, Jew, and Muslim deals with every day.
So I have come to realize that this society will never have a true progressive agenda that will actually address the real issues in our universe.
1. We all want to be happy.
2. There are questions that are not answered. But through the spirit of mankind and our inherent need for knowledge, and through our bottomless talents, we will eventually answer all the questions that are before us.
3. We need a support group that address our cultures additicion to fear and 1st Century ideology.
Oh this is my favorte part of the interview...
How did your mother feel about being ushered to her seat by President Bush?
Well, he did a better job than Dick Cheney did when he came to the rotunda. I felt so bad. Cheney brought my mother up to the casket, so she could pay her respects. She is in her 80's, and she has glaucoma and has trouble seeing. There were steps, and he left her there. He just stood there, letting her flounder. I don't think he's a mindful human being. That's probably the nicest way I can put it. .
Ha, a mindful human being, if only a small, very, small fraction of us were. We wouldn't have so many absent minded leaders preoccupied about the rapture...So So Sad...
