A lot of things are going badly for Bush's re-election campaign right now, except for the last month's job numbers.
But the Bush/Cheney re-elect is doing one thing that could really hurt us. His negative ads in swing states are ensuring that large swaths of middle Americans' first impression of Kerry is a negative one: liberal, flip-flopping, all ready to raise your gas taxes.
While this is so goofy that people like us pay it little heed, we can't take it lying down. We need to fight back.
I propose (if it hasn't been proposed already) that we start a letter writing campaign with one simple goal: give swing voters a good early impression of Kerry.
Simple flyers with a positive bio and picture and each letter writer can say a few words about why Kerry is a hero to him/her. IT could say "The President is spending millions on misleading attack ads to give you a negative impression of John Kerry. I'd like to spend 37 cents to tell you it's not true. John Kerry is a hero who has fought for his country on the battlefield, in the courthouse, and in Washington." or something like that.
I sent out a few of these very inspirational flyers for Wes Clark ("The President we were promised as kids") with his photo and stellar bio. Maybe if I had sent out more he'd be our nominee!
We would need to coordinate this and someone manage the lists. Re-defeat Bush (www.redefeatbush.com) is one organization that could help with this. The former Dean organizations would be good too. The Clark website had an amazing online tool for distributing addresses of voters to letter-writers and tracking completed letters.
What do you say? Good idea, bad idea?
