I'm putting forth my thoughts on a 24-7 cable network called
NRTN for
Not Really The News. The idea is to free up the cable and network news channels to cover "real" news and our network will cover the "fluff".
NRTN would be a cross between a "news" channel and an "entertainment" channel by blending the content of entertainment shows such as Entertainment Tonight or Access Hollywood. Warning: "news" is presently defined in the current context as defined by any major cable news network e.g. without the content that serious news seekers desire.
Inspirations for the proposed network included:
- naming it the "Missing White Woman" channel
- or the 24-Hour Michael Jackson channel
Marketing surveys have shown us that our target demographics include the age groups 18-24 (M/F) with some minor influx into the 13-17 (M/F).
More below the fold ...
Higher age group targets are achievable but harder to define. A closer look reveals that our selected viewers are not age or gender specific. Instead, surprisingly, it appeals to the whimsical, clueless, non-chalant, ignorant or some would say the "I don't give a sh??" personality of any age/gender/ethnic/geographical/financial (class) group.
We have the highest expectations for our new network since it appears that we will be servicing viewers who presently watch the news but want coverage of anything but the "real" news. It is why these other networks devote substantial coverage to our target demographics instead of concentrating on the "real" news.
By focusing on the "other" news, our new network will easily surpass any current viewership ratings for all of the "real" news networks combined.
