In addition, by 55-29 (61-22 among independents), voters say Democrats should "provide a balance" to make sure Bush and the Republicans don't go too far with their agenda, rather than "work in a bipartisan way" with Republicans to help pass Bush's legislative priorities and avoid gridlock.
I suspect the reason Bush is pushing Social Secutiry now and for only 30 more days, is that he knows he needs to get back up in the polls by 2006 or the Republicans will lose. So he's using up his "mandate" and by the end of summer, who will even remember either what he did or that he lost? Only us? Probably, unless between DeLay and Social Security, the bad taste in America's mouth lingers long enough to change attitudes.
