Action: AFA flexes its muscles - let's fight back!

American Family Association has targeted Ford Motor Company for a boycott because Ford "promotes the homosexual agenda".  The details are available at the Boycott Ford website.  I must say, before I read that site, I had no idea how gay-friendly Ford was.  We need to support Ford on this.

I have started a counter-petition, which is available at PetitionOnline.  Please sign the petition.  Please note, I have a required field "ford products owned".  Check the "Boycott Ford Website" to see if you own a Ford product first.  I want them to know there are customers who support them.  Other action items below the fold.

Action items:

  1. Sign the petition.

  2. Call your local Ford dealer, you can get this information at the Boycott Ford website.

  3. Write to Ford or call them to express your support, the contact info is here .

    4. Ask some of your like-minded friends to also take action.

And, just for fun, here is the letter I sent to Ford.

Hello, I have become aware that the American Family Association has targeted Ford Motor Company for a boycott because of Ford's gay-friendly policies.  You can see the details on their website, www.boycottford.com.  They are collecting petition signatures and they are encouraging their supporters to call dealers to complain about Ford's gay-friendly policies.

I am appalled that this vocal minority is attempting to pressure you in this way.

I teach Sunday school with a woman who has two gay children and two straight children.  When she learned of her childrens' sexual orientation her main concern was to see that all of her children had the same opportunities in life.  What she discovered was that there was a great deal of misinformation about gay people and about sexual orientation in the culture, and that her gay children in fact do not have anywhere near the same opportunities as her straight children because they are confronted with substantial bigotry and discrimination in their lives.

Sue believes that dispelling the misinformation will help to dispel the bigotry and she works with PFLAG to help change the current situation. Thus, I was particularly happy to see that you support PFLAG.  American Family Association, incidentally, is one of the major purveyors of such misinformation (www.soulforce.org contains some samples).

I inherited a few shares of Ford from my aunt last year and I am proud to own shares in a company that understands that discrimination is wrong.  Stick to your guns!
