Under the theme, "Preparing makes sense. Get ready now," the effort advises people to prepare emergency kits with three days food, water and medical supplies, develop a family communication plan and be informed about what to do in the event of such disasters as a biological threat, a chemical threat, a nuclear blast, explosions, radiation threat and even natural disasters.
"It is essential that everyone gets the message, because with terrorism there are often no second chances," Secretary Tom Ridge said in a statement.
