BUSH IS GIVING A MEDAL

Sat Sep 03, 2005 at 09:00:51 AM PDT

Well my friends, time has come for acknowledging those great friends of this country who have given their hearts and souls to serve the people of Louisiana at their time of distress. For the last seven days we have seen hurrican Katrina ravaging the coast of Mississippii and Louisiana. It has taken hundreds of lives, destroyed thousands of homes, livestock, bridges and roads. It has left millions of people without power, without water, without food to feed their families. Yet, out of this horrible tragedy, America has come out stronger than ever before. We stand together to build this city of New Orleans as we are building cities in Ramadi, in Basra, in Falluja.
Make no mistake, when I and my Republican colleagues are done with New Orleans it will look equal if not better than Baghdad- the crown jewel of my administration.  And here today, I am honored to stand by my friends Michael Brown, the Secretary of FEMA and Michael Chertoff, the Secretary of Dept. of Homeland Security to honor their great service and leadership they have shown to the poeple of New Orleans. In recognition of their service, I, George W. Bush, hereby bestow onto them the Highest Civilian Award: The Presidential Medal of Honor. (Applause)

But we are not done yet. There is one more person I want to honor today who, by virtue of his profound silence and solitude, has become the conscience of this nation. A man who is universally revered by the Media personalities for his tremendous gravitas which makes the grown men of Television blushing with adoration. A man, although living in a secluded corner of Wyoming all this time, nevertheless is acutely aware of the tremendous pain and suffering of the people of New Orleans. His heart bleeds in compassion for the poor African-Americans , the Caucasians who live in Mobile Homes, the downtrodden and he will not rest until all of us become as fortunate as he has been. It is with my utmost gratitude for the leadership and compassion which he has shown, I, George W. Bush nominate my great friend Vice President Dick Cheney for the Nobel Peace Prize. (Tremendous Applause, catcalls) Nobody in this whole wide world deserves this prize more than him. Thank you all for coming. And God Bless America.
