Dreamtime: Draft Gore/Barr as independents (w/poll)

Mon Jan 16, 2006 at 11:54:54 AM PDT

There are a few people in politics that I think could change their party to independent and still get elected. Al Gore is currently at the top of my dreamlist. If he and Barr are serious about changing the course of things, then they must realize that there's a ripple effect associated with being a member of the current Democratic Party establishment, and that, unfortunately, Dems are tethered to a bunch of B.S. that prevents them from being taken seriously.

cont'd...

Al Gore, however, never had a problem being taken seriously. It's when he tried to crack a joke that he was in trouble. The guy makes Bush look like such a lightweight, and there's a lot of people that really, really want to see what his presidency, the one we should've been under for at least 4 years, would look like.

Right now, Al Gore could show people he's serious by taking the independent route, and letting the Dems know that they have to respect the opinions of folks on the ground more than the political hoo-ha talking points of the day. Even if he weren't likely to win, his is a statement I could get behind, but, based on 2000, I simply don't trust him as a Democrat. I guess I should sign off with the typical of this kind of diary: flame away...

UPDATE: Roddy McCorley writes:

There's a precedent... in 1864 Lincoln did not run as a Republican. He and Andrew Johnson were a "Union" ticket.
