Two days ago, I
reported the mind boggling disclosure of Denis Donaldson (whose capture two years ago as a "Sinn Fein" spy and brought down the power-sharing government in Northern Ireland) that he was, in fact, really a British spy for the last 20 years. Further, that his "apprehension" was staged and a plot by the Unionists to support David Trimble over Ian Paisley.
Pressure appears to be growing on Tony Blair to make some kind of statement.
Peter Hahn, No. Ireland Secretary, seems to feel that there should be NO public inquiry.
Really? An event that brought down a government and NO inquiry? Or to paraphrase Gerry Adams...This was no bump in the road.
Gets wilder below:
Bertie Ahern doesn't appear to have made any further statements since he professed it was all bizarre and that he finds it hard to understand what is going on. Easy, Bertie, Blair screwed you.
Foreign Minister Dermot Ahern has an appointment with Hahn today. Whether he gets any answers remains to be seen.
Now it gets more bizarre. Donaldson is said to be hiding out with his family in the Republic. Now that is the last place on earth he should be hiding out, I would guess.
And then....There is intense speculation in the North that a second British spy, occupying an even more sensitive role in Sinn Fein, may be unmasked.
How much wilder can this get?
