I posted
Barak Obama's remarks at the dedication of the Lincoln Library on a another board, one that's heavily conservative. There's been a lot of traffic concerning the nuclear option, Bush's judicial nominations, etc. So I thought they might like to see what a real uniter sounds like.
I posted the link with no commentary, to allow them to form their own opinions. I figured that they would be impressed with his eloquence and vision, even though they may not agree with his politics.
Silly fucking me.
Instead, I got gross misinterpretation, character assaults, and, amoung other things, a very weak understanding of world history. In other words, just another day in a red state.
Go to the flip side for all the gruesome details.
Instead of even a guarded appreciation, I got a stream of ignorance and hatred.
Among the responses:
"when we evoke our common God to condemn those who do not think as we do, rather than to seek God's mercy for our own lack of understanding."
OK, here we are in the cradle of Western Civilization. We have food, clean water, laws to protect us, we are the most fortunate people on the planet, and we are supposed to "understand" why they want us dead. Let me get this straight: A homicide bomber crosses over into Israel, goes into a deli/restaurant, blows himself/herself up and takes out a hundred or so with him/her. Then, we need to know "why?"
I think Barak needs to study American History a little more so he may gain an appreciation for his right to assemble.
"condemn those who do not think as we do" is the most poison of his speech. I know exactly what he's talking about. Show me where Bush has condemned Islam over the 9/11 attacks. That's his message, right?
That was from one of the board moderators. I love the irony of his being asked to "moderate" anything.
Here's another:
As for Mr. Obama, here is a man that claims to be a christian, a defender of the helpless, but is anti-life. The only problem with his speech is the man giving it. For him to talk about character is a joke. They should have picked a more credible person to give that speech.
It's like that old George Carlin routine: "Biff Barf with sports here. I call 'em they way I see 'em. And if I don't see 'em, I make 'em up."
And the sad thing is that their responses validate everything Obama said.
