I've been trotting around donating to numerous senate and house campaigns. Nothing big, $25.01 here and $25.01 there. And while I've been sure to add that "kos penny," I've also made it clear with each donation that there's one reason I'm back in this game -- Dean.
Every donation has come with a message along these lines:
It was the reform-minded push of Dean that encouraged me to get back into Democratic politics after a long season of setting on the sidelines. Now, I'm not only campaigning for Dean, I'm also a volunteeer in my local senate and house races, and I've contributed to several house campaigns -- both in state and out.
I'm not alone. Dean has done an amazing amount to energize new and old Democrats alike. The ripples of this campaign will still be moving out a long time after election 2004 is decided.
I hope that my statements in this quote turn out to be more accurate that those I've made in predicting the outcome of the campaign. While Dean may fail to secure the nomination, the campaign has given me more than I gave in return. It has given me hope that candidates can be honest and forthright. It has given me evidence that individuals can change the system. Win or lose, I'm grateful to Dean for running and to all those that helped organize this campaign on the national and local levels.
