The Republican Experiment Has FailedFor six years now, our nation has been run by Republicans. It's been an utter failure. Just a few examples: nearly 3000 Americans dead (many more wounded) in Iraq; the assault on civil rights and on science; out-of-control spending and borrowing; and N. Korea's test of a nuclear weapon.
And whom do the Republicans blame for N. Korea's action? Bill Clinton, of course! I heard a radio ad for Republican Mike Sodrel recently. His issues? Gay marriage, flag burning, and the estate tax for the rich, none of which affect your daily life. It's time to give Democrats a chance to fix what Republicans have messed up, and to focus on important issues.
Some points:
1. Just write. They may not publish YOURS, but if they are flooded with pro-Democrat letters, they'll be more likely to publish some of them. I got a pro-Kerry letter in, in 2004, so you just never know, you might get published.
2. Mine may have been too long, but I gave them two different paragraphs so they can throw one out. Keep it short and simple. Spellcheck. Don't rant like a madman.
3. Feel free to choose a local issue (as I did) to highlight.
4. Send to multiple newspapers. The more the merrier. Most can be submitted online. Pretty easy.
5. Write about what you are passionate about. You can generalize, as I did to an extent, or pick a particular issue. (I almost wrote just about the anti-science stance of the Bush admin.)
6. Push friends to write.
Let's bombard newspapers for the next three weeks. Remember, only progressives read dailykos, but a more diverse group of folks are reading the newspapers.
