WI-5: From Wisconsin... photo proof that the Republican party is falling apart
Fri Oct 13, 2006 at 08:33:55 PM PDT
I know... I know...
It's hard to believe the Republicans are falling apart at the seams.
The headlines seem to indicate it. The scandals seem to be helping it. We're all praying for it. But, it's hard to believe it could finally be happening.
I know that I've been a bit skeptical too. After all, I'm in James Sensenbrenner's district (WI-5) and that would make anyone a tad pessimistic, believe me.
But, a breath of fresh air is swirling here in Wisconsin and his name is Bryan Kennedy. If you haven't yet, you should check him out. If you like what you see...slide him some money.
But this isn't just a campaign plug...it's a loud, ringing cry of joy...
See, today I drove to
Ripon, Wisconsin. Cute little town - nice old buildings, great Main St., friendly people, and
(gasp) 'the birthplace of the Republican party.'
I was in a bit of bad mood. The weather has been annoyingly cold and windy and the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel has apparently failed to realize that there's an actual campaign for a federal office going on right outside their doors.
That's typical of the media here in Wisconsin. If it's not an incumbent, they don't know what to do with it.
Last night and the previous morning, there was a pair of debates between (cue angelic chorus) Bryan Kennedy and (cut to booing crowd) Sensenbrenner. Two debates between the men running to represent a good portion of the Milwaukee metro area in Washington and the Journal Sentinel was apparently not even there.
Once again, there was crap for coverage in the local rag.
So, I was a bit cranky on the drive out to lovely, little Ripon - which in addition to being the 'birthplace of the Republic party' is also the home of 'Ripon good cookies.' I'm pretty sure that's about all anyone in Wisconsin could tell you about Ripon...but I digress.
It was a nice drive though and by the time I pulled into town, I was feeling a lot better about life.
Then I saw it.
'The birthplace of the Republican party.'
The real thing.
The actual place.
There it was.
And here's how it looked...

And if that's not the most telling sign that the Republican party is falling apart, I don't know what is.
After nearly taking out an old lady, a blind guy with a guide dog and a Cub Scout troop - I pulled over, jumped from my truck and snapped a photo.
Not the best I'm afraid...but you try and take a good photo with all that wailing.
Is this a scientific proof that Democrats are going to take over the House and maybe even the Senate? I sure do hope so.
One thing I do know though, is that Republicans aren't taking any better care of the house they were born in than they are of the House we let them run down up on Capitol Hill.
And, if we don't work hard to evict them, they're going to leave our country looking the same way.
So, that's it. That's all I've got. No poll numbers, no great links to awesome articles - nothing but a picture of a house that's falling apart. Just that.
Just a photo and some hope - lot's of hope.
Please, please, please...go down and volunteer some time to a race near you. If you can, donate some money too. It's crunch time and there are a lot of candidates that could really use some money as they surge through the next weeks.
Go to ActBlue and donate to the candidate of your choice, or go to the ActBlue page I set up for Bryan Kennedy.
