How humiliating must that have been?
Calling every donor who RSVPed for the John McCain fundraiser to let them know the guest of honor wasn't going to make it. All 108. Of course not one person asked for a return of their $250 admission for the scheduled breakfast which was (will be?) held sans McCain.
Bilbray expected to make about $65,000 from today's scheduled fundraiser by selling photos with McCain for $1,000 a pop.
Of course it wasn't a TOTAL loss for Bilbray, as McCain's PAC made a $5,000 donation to the lobbyist-candidate's campaign.
There are only a few days left until this extremely important race and the momentum is all behind Busby. These last few days could make or break our chances in CA-50 and we need to do everything possible to ensure strong turnout on 6/6/06.
Some good news:
First, the polls show that she is extremely competitive with (SUSA: 45/45) and even leading Bilbray by 7 points (C. Lake: 47/40).
Second, the republicans (and Bilbray) are doing everything possible to hurt themselves in there efforts to retain this seat. First we had the never ending attack ads linking Busby to a child molester which seem to have backfired tremendously (thanks for wasting $5 million NRCC). Then there was the visit to SD from none other than Dick Cheney, nothing like the presence of that evil man to remind voters why they should vote Dem! And now McCain is bailing on Bilbray, who appears to be a sinking ship!
Let's help show Washington than entrenched power can be unseated by the power of the people. Let's match McCain's PAC contribution and get $5,000 for Busby, tonight!!

With less than 1 week to go in this campaign, it's now or never. This is one race where the netroots can clearly make the difference. If she wins by the slimmest of margins, I think we'll all know that we had a hand in it! Come on people, the time to give is now!
