Time for Gore to heal the nation

Sat Oct 07, 2006 at 09:23:12 PM PDT

I realize Al Gore's focus has been on the planet.  I realize he has used his status to improve diplomacy around the world.  I realize he has fought for the basic rights of not only citizens around the world, but also for the very health of the planet.  I realize he has traveled around the globe to commune with all, but...

We need Al to come home and heal our nation.

This diary isn't about wishful thinking, nor some obsessive love for Al Gore.  It is simply my observation that there is no other person for the job of unraveling the mess that Bush and all other Republicans have made.

Perhaps not since Lincoln, and for sure not since FDR, have we seen a time in history where 1 person is absolutely needed for stepping into the role of President and leading our country out of a dreadful abyss.

The qualifications of Al Gore are over and above every other prospective candidate...

 - He is a true compassionate in this world.
 - He is a fence mender.
 - He understands diplomacy.
 - He has won the popular vote as President, before.
 - He cares deeply for our country.
 - He has served our country in the military during a war.
 - He knows the operations of the legislative branch.
 - He knows the operations of the executive branch.
 - He has grown considerably in 6 years.

Voters distrust of everything in DC, from the Congress, to the Executive branch, to the media, is drifting to all time highs.  We need someone with deep experience to come in and heal the rifts, and restore our confidence in the nation and our constitution.

Al Gore, world traveler, has now regained outsider status.  No one from any quarter of the DC establishment is going to be trusted.  Not Hillary, not Kerry, not Feingold, McCain, nor Condi.

2008 will be like 1976.  Only an outsider will do.  But we can't afford a Governor who doesn't know the insides and outsides of the Federal government and International diplomacy.  So Warner, Romney, Jeb Bush, and Rudi just won't cut it.

Voters are going to be pining for the 1990's.  However, Al Gore, not Hillary, is the true heir apparent of the Clinton legacy, which now seems even shinier than when Bill left office.

My plea to Al... come back and heal our nation.
