From THE GREAT STATE OF MAINE...
"Hey hey! Ho ho! Bush and Cheney have got to go! Hey hey! Ho h..." Y'know, I really hate it when I start a cheer and no one follows. Must be Monday.
Poll results from Friday: Response was heavy at 100+. 42% of Kos (rhymes with Bose Acoustic Wave Machine except without the Z sound. And the last three words) readers say they were most disappointed by the Democratic Leadership prior to the start of the Iraq war (The Press was second at 28%). I agree. Their fixation on poll numbers clouded their judgment, and now Bush can use their overwhelming endorsement against us. The price we pay for being the nice ones...
A new poll of global significance follow today's Pulitzer Prize Committee-groveling edition of Cheers and Jeers, complete with sound effects borrowed from Fox News. It all starts in the Extended Copy section...[SWOOSH!!] RIGHTNOW! [Gong!!]
Cheers and Jeers for Monday, March 22, 2004
CHEERS to chutzpah. Israelis kill wheelchair-bound, quadriplegic, bearded---oh, yes, and TERRORIST ASS--- Sheik Ahmed Yassin, firing a missile up his nostril in broad daylight (The contents of his coffin: three teeth and an elbow). Score one for the good guys---but why haven't I been able to stop holding my breath for the last 12 hours?
CHEERS to Dick Clarke. In huge embarrassment for Team Bush, former White House Terror Tsar says neo-cons ignored threat by Al Qaeda, wanted to skip directly to Iraq (Do not pass Go, do not collect $200). Now Rove is workin' like mad to revoke his New Years Rockin' Eve gig.
JEERS to slow pitches. Bush---astonishingly---to lob easy one at Kerry for planning to deficit spend (http://www.realcities.com/mld/krwashington/8243703.htm). If The Chin can't knock that outta the park, I may take a second look at Nader. Batter up.
JEERS to DNC. They took my donation, then promptly spent it on this piece of crap: http://www.democrats.org/deficit/flash.html. From now on my $$$ goes to 527s. They get it.
CHEERS to Liberal Pride. Walter Cronkite admonishes Kerry to act like a man and stand up for what he is (http://www.commondreams.org/views04/0319-01.htm ). Now I know why they gave this to Howard Dean: http://www.blogforamerica.com/archives/004019.html.
CHEERS to shocking titles. Former Nixon insider John Dean pens new book: "Worse Than Watergate." Hope this doesn't get buried by Clarke's press. It's a damning page-turner in its own right...from someone who knows a cover-up when he sees one.
CHEERS to Zombie Power. `Dawn of the Dead' knocks `Passion of the Christ' off top of the box office heap. Americans, tired of excessive violence and gore, were looking for more feel-good fare.
CHEERS to today's Nachos and Beer Alert. Comedy Central airs Daily Show `Race From the White House' special tonight at 10 ET. Mmmm...nachos with Jon Stewart. Aghghglglghglgh...
JEERS to America the intolerant. From USA Today gay marriage article: "In 1958, nine years before the Supreme Court struck down bans on interracial marriage, a Gallup Poll found that more than nine in 10 Americans objected to black-white unions. By 2002, just one in 10 thought they should be prohibited." So 29 million Americans STILL think interracial marriage is wrong? Canada just keeps looking better and better... Full article here: http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2004-03-21-gay-marriage_x.htm.
JEERS to cruel irony. Brian Maxwell created health-promoting PowerBar empire and was a world-class marathon runner. Dead at 51 of a sudden death heart attack. Jim Fixx (http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=6353418&pt=Jim%20Fixx) met him at the Pearly Gates, where they swapped "What the F...??!" stories.
CHEERS to William Shatner. "My God, Spock...I'm...Seventy Three...years old." "Yes, Captain. And it'll take a hundred more before you live this down": http://www.pathcom.com/~boby/lsd.htm
So...what are you cheering and jeering about today?
