TX-06: Barton has cops turf autism dad - VIDEO

Wed Nov 01, 2006 at 11:46:44 AM PDT

Another case of mistreatment of a constituent who just wants to ask questions.

Here is a diary explaining the issue: Republican representative Joe Barton is single-handedly holding up a "Combatting Autism" bill.  This bill would enact a variety of measures to aid kids with autism.  He won't let it pass without his own reforms to the NIH.  Surprise, surprise, autism parents are mad at this legislative blackmail.

Here's the video: http://www.youtube.com/...

I couldn't get the whole thing to play myself, so I haven't actually seen the cops drag the guy off or whatever they did.  But you do see a male staffer phoning 911.

Watch the female Barton minion say that he's not allowed to be in the private meeting -- the parents attending are hand-picked, it seems -- because the office is a little "gunshy" of parents of kids with autism because they've received so many "vile" phone calls.  You'd almost think Barton did something that deserved their anger.  Her general message is, "you autism parents are horrible, nasty people and so you don't deserve to be represented," with a generous touch of "Ohhhh poor little me."

George Allen's thugs, these iron-faced Barton operatives trying to browbeat, gang up on, intimidate and sic the law on a man whose life has been ripped apart by autism (I have two with it myself, so I should know) ...that's the face of Republicanism today.  If you're a big corporation with dollars to give me, where's your ass, kissy kissy; if you're a constituent with a problem, even a severe one -- there's the door and a goon to kick you out.

I have to hand it to this man and Mike Stark even more for showing the restraint they have while being mistreated.
