I am NOT tired of DLC slurs (literal vs. philosophy)

Earlier today I read a Diary, I'm Tired of the DLC Slur where the title alone made me angry.  Fortunately, after reading it and the comments following it I not only had calmed down, but also agreed with a few of it's premises.

1. Don't label politicians as DLC unless they are.
2. Don't label someone on DKos a DLC type and then never listen to them again, just because they aren't as "Progressive" as you.

There would be no problem with following these 2 rules except that, at least on DKos, DLC has developed more than one definition.  There is, of course, the literal or denotative meaning of DLC: a member of the Democratic Leadership Council.  Then there is the connotation of DLC that has developed here at DKos and many other Progressive Blogs.  What is that definition?

If I were asked I would say that it's
1. a philosophy inside the Democratic party that believe that the best way to win elections is to adopt conservativeRepublican positions 2. Bashing the party for one's own political gain  3. Apologizing for being a liberal or worse pretending not to be one

It is was the DLC Philosophy that truly gave birth to the Progressive Blogs and the NetRoots.  DLC philosophy had chocked the Democratic Party from ever making a liberal stand on anything, let alone the Iraq Occupation.  The Internet gave us an outlet to express ourselves and our frustration with the Democratic Party.  DLC has become a sort of Anti-thesis to how I'm convinced the Party should fight against Republicans.  Therefore, using DLC as a slur shouldn't ever stop.  If anyone starts thinking that maybe we should soften our view or rhetoric just to win an election then that person is adopting a DLC philosophy and should be called out on it.

The most inflammatory instance of DLC Philosophy and bad framing being used is, "I believe Abortion is a horrible thing and should be stopped... but I support a Women's right to choose".  This person is bashing anyone who's had an abortion, adopting a right-wing frame, and apologizing for a position that is shared by the majority of Americans.

Even if the DLC went bye-bye tomorrow, (Wouldn't that be great?) or renounced their anti-liberal elitist views, or was even irrelevant, the connotation of DLC here at DailyKos wouldn't disappear with it.  Rather, it would server us as a reminder of what happens when we let politicians "tack" right for short term gain.  DLC thinking should be derailed constantly to prevent it's rampant application.

This is of course not at all to say that everyone who is to the right of me is a DLC thinker.  If you truly believe that the minimum wage shouldn't be hiked, or that Iraq is the central front on Terror, or Marriage is between a man and a woman only, then you should say that.  If you truly believe something, people will respectfully disagree with you, and should be able to do so without labeling you with DLC style thinking.  (Some more respectfully than others)  What I, and I suspect most others on this sight don't respect is pandering to the right or left.  If you suggest that you believe one way, but should muddle that belief just to win an election, you will not only lose my respect, but probably the election too.

That is why I cannot fully abide by the 2 seemingly simple rules at the top of my post.  I will continue to label politicians as DLC if they display DLC style thinking and the same for my fellow Kossacks.  However, I will pledge not to label someone DLC just because they may have a few genuine opinions that are to the right of my opinions. And so with that my fellow Kossacks, I say, go on and continue slinging the DLC mud-pie.  It is after all, what got us here in the first place!
