New Users Welcome (Problem Solved!)

Fri Dec 15, 2006 at 06:00:38 PM PDT

Welcome New Users (Tags) will not be published tonight.  "Usually on Friday nights I post a diary on learning to use dailyKos.  Tonight, I had some problems (detailed below) and can't post much, but feel free to ask questions."- hat tip to plf515.

UPDATE-  Bad Tag (two spaces) / Browser (one space finds two spaces) interaction.  Thank you dmsilev.

UPDATE- the problem was a bad tag and a bad browser search (Firefox 1.5.0.8 can't tell the difference between '  ' and ' ').

I will continue my fact checking and publish my definitive tome tomorrow.

In the mean time consider this a Late Night Whiny Meta Thread.

Huh!  What's up ek?

It's not that I'm afraid of going head to head against Bill in Portland Maine, there's plenty of snark to go around, or that I'm having trouble with HTML and the Ajax Diary Editor, not even at that stage yet.

My real problem is this-

When I look at the Tag Cloud and I 'Find In This Page' "george w. bush" (one of my key examples), I see this- George W. Bush (1).

This is odd because-

  1. It's not the way I remember it (what happened to size reflecting popularity?), but also
  1. How can that be the right number when "George W. Bush" is the community norm and when I look for it using Search on |tag="george w. bush"| I get 16 results today, 174 in the last week, 748 in the last month, and 10162 in the last year?

And yes I am looking at /alltags and not Most Popular.

Now normally I would have picked this up yesterday when I usually do my fact checking, but I'm behind this week due to problems on the interface between meatspace and the cyber realm.  I had my main hard drive go down Tuesday and I'm still not fully recovered.

But I am up and running again and I will be responsive to your questions on this thread for a while as I have work to do, not the least of which is finishing the update and the research for it.

I expect I will be able to have that version available tomorrow evening at about 10 pm EST.

I have no excuses.  While your sincere expression of sympathy is welcome, I am inconsolable.

I'm sorry I let you down.
