For those of you not interested in Stern's morning program, his show has gotten a lot more interesting (if not more self-involved) lately due to the FCC's investigation of him and ClearChannel's decision to pull him from 6 stations.
Stern seems positive that once the FCC levies a fine on him he is as good as fired, but what is more interesting is that he is convinced that this FCC investigation occurred because Stern, once a Bush supporter, changed his opinion on Bush.
As a result, the Stern-of-late has been as much of a Liberal Shock Jock as you could possibly imagine, ranting about ClearChannel and Powell, with Robin backing him up all the way.
Stern even went so far this morning as to say--"Thank God for Howard Dean, for teaching the Democrats how to yell again and fight back."
John Kerry, of course, refuses to take a position on the FCC, Clearchannel, or Stern, so Stern's been saying, "I hate Bush, but Kerry's giving me nothing to work with. Anybody but Bush, but still..." which is exactly how I feel.
C'mon, Kerry--Gay Marriage, now Clearchannel and Stern... He ducks from every fight it seems.
I can understand him "picking his battles," since Stern is a controversial figure, but it certainly would help Kerry if he picked at least ONE mildly controversial position to show that he's not a pandering politician. Stern has a lot of supporters too and Kerry could easily insulate himself by supporting Stern with reservations about the content of his show, if that is the problem. Kerry's support is about the proper role of the FCC not to be Political Policeman of the airwaves, but to guard the public interest.
NB: The FCC is investigating Stern because a CALLER to his show uttered the "N" word. For those of you who listen to Stern, that's pretty tame stuff. Also, it wasn't even Stern. Other Clearchannel DJs have uttered the "F" word and the "S" word, and of course we all know about Michael Savage and his ilk.
I agree with Stern that this investigation has NOTHING to do with "obscenity" and entirely to do with POLITICS, and as a result, is scary.
Anyway, thought I'd share that.
