Is there anything that would be better for the Democratic Party than to see Club for Growth become the face of the Republican Party in the 2004 election?
The Sushi ad succeeds in crossing over the experience-- from making you laugh, to laughing at the ad.
Hey Club for Growth wingers, there is zip chance that the US will have a surplus anytime soon. Bush, the big spender, would rather do deficit then balance the budget, and he's the first since Hoover to lose more jobs than he's created. Meanwhile, Iraq is becoming an overwhelming morass.
The Republican plan is for Bush to make a dodge to the middle, and for the rightwing grassroots to distract by attack. They will mix-in an attack on the issue of taxes, with a mud-slinging ridicule of the Democratic candidate... but they'll go too far and that's because the rightwing wants to re-ignite their failed cultural war along the way.
Bush & Rove remember 1992 & Pat Buchanan at the GOP convention, and the 1998 mid-term results following the House vote of Impeachment seemed to teach them a lesson. That's their fear, because when the Republicans run right, the Democrats win. But you can already see it coming. Call it the GOP's six year itch to self-destruct.
