James Wolcott offers a delightful account of Frothy Ricky trying to explain SS destruction to an unamused Don Imus.
So score two against Ricky.
Suppose the good hard working middle class folks in the Granite State without health insurance might wake up by the next election.
All those Bushco supporters maxed out on on their credit cards.
Living paycheck to paycheck. Without a dime saved.
Spending their home refinancing proceeds like out of control assholes.
With adjustable rate mortgages.
About to see the real estate bubble collapse
Think they'll start voting with their checkbooks not their prayer books.
Little Ricky Plays His Bongos

Listened to Rick Santorum this morning on Imus trying to sell Social Security reform--it was as if the man was swinging a toothpick at home plate. Santorum couldn't have sounded more overmatched by the subject and hapless. Hewing to the Republican talking points, he said he was against "privatization," but in favor of "personal accounts," and tried to play the generation-gap gambit dividing seniors and young'uns into separate constituencies. When Santorum delineated some of the hypothetical proposals to fund the system, Imus suffered woozy bends of tedium, accusing Santorum of killing the show, driving right into C-SPAN territory. I wonder if this is what might undo the Bush campaign to sacrifice Social Security on the altar of Wall Street, the sheer deadweight boredom of competing budgetary projections and complicated solutions. As Imus snores, so snores America.
