In this Saturday Washington Post story:

Maj. Gen. Michael D. Rochelle, head of the Army's recruiting command said that it was OK for Congress to up the upper age limit of Army recruits from 35 to 40 because "today's 40-year-olds are in better physical shape than they were when the law was written."
My question - Is there any evidence that todays 40-year olds are in better shape than in 1973? I really doubt it.
