The sites
digg.com and
delicious.com are two at which all kossacks should register. These sites are user communities which submit and rank webpages.
Delicious is owned by Yahoo!.
They intend to use the data from delicious to rank webpages. The fact that the pages in these system are human reviewed and selected makes them more likely to have relevance.
People here are fond of "freeping" various polls and uprating stories. Saving them on digg and delicious is more powerful than those techniques. Digg and delicious both have front pages which include the popular stories of the moment: with 100 kossacks rating a story we could easily make those pages at most times.
Both sites also act as mini-search engines. They often return high quality results because the pages are all human evaluated. That means when people search those sites our stories can be returned. The Yahoo tie-in on delicious also means that our stories will likely get ranked up in yahoo search results.
Registering for digg and delicious and using them to save stories we think important is a good way to propel them further out onto the web. When you see a good story, like the recent Hersh piece in the New Yorker, go over and give it a push.
