Two items for my diary today. Of course, saying "today", that implies that this diary is daily, which it is not. Please don't hold me to that. One item is about
Rudy Giuliani being boycotted, another is the results on a vote on Wal-Mart in Flagstaff, here in my state.
All of us on here, particularly us Catholics, have been waiting for the day when some Bishop somewhere gets pissed at a Republican. Somehow, John Kerry and Ted Kennedy are bad Catholics for being pro-choice, but pro-choice Republican Catholics have escaped scrutiny, but this, I'm told, has had nothing to do with partisanship. Apparently, this ends now.
Rudy Giuliani is scheduled to give the commencement speech at Loyola University. Cardinal William Keeler has said he
will not attend due to Giuliani's pro-choice stance. It was only a matter of time before this happened. Now that they are taking on pro-choice Republicans, I suppose we will now hear Republicans complain about the church sticking its nose into electoral politics.
Also, an interesting note: Rep. Boehlert had a similar problem, and decided not to speak at a commencement because with the attendant hullaballoo, he felt that his appearance would distract from an event that is to honor the students. No such act from Giuliani, he is too much of an egomaniac. America's mayor, my ass.
In other news, a proposition that was to prevent the building of a new Wal-Mart in Flagstaff has narrowly failed. The people supporting the building of the store with a classy campaign that included comparing opponents to Nazis.
Do zobaczenia. Hasta la proxima.
