Polling has added to the consternation of some Republicans, who believe this issue is creating public animosity to the party itself. There are also those Republicans who believe in the Constitutional separation of powers, and on principle are opposed to calling for terrorist attacks on judges.
On the other hand, senior White House officials believe this issue has the potential to "suck the wind" out of any other debate. "Republicans debating Republicans is good for us," said one unnamed source.
