Someone Took In These Pants...
Yesterday, Megan Twohey of the Journal-Sentinel wrote an article about the fresh faced conservative insurgents in the Marquette College Republicans and their quest for freedom...at last... for their conservative views. No longer will they be forced to drink from the slightly lower water faucet in the hall, for now they have arrived with their new Leadership Institute (see counter-point #2) funded rag, The Warrior.
All is not well at Marquette University. Conservatives routinely sneak into classes late for fear of being attacked while walking to class. Armed gangs of liberal toughs interrupt classes and free market frolicking to interrogate suspected conservatives. It's the sad state of liberal intolerance in Milwaukee, where in spite of the muted presentation of progressive ideas in the media and the lack of control over any branch of the government, liberals still rule with an iron fist. The cries of conservatives sometimes... is... heard... okay, I'm laughing too much to finish this bullshit fantasy.
Brendan Henak, intrepid business manager of the S.S. Deluded, claims liberals vandalized his house on Thursday night/Friday morning. Eggs, Ketchup, a copy of The Warrior with an "X" through it... all the classic signs of liberal intolerance run amok. Despite having no evidence of who actually did the crime, Brendan's sterling grasp of logic was printed in the paper:
"I can't believe it," said Henak. "We're just trying to give a voice to everyone, and then my house gets egged. People are violently opposed to free speech."
I think now might be a good time to refer back to the actual "The Warrior" website and our old friend, The Leadership Institute. Yes, it's that Leadership Institute, the one that trained our favorite journalist/manwhore, Jeff Gannon/Guckert. Now take a look at that quote again. "We're just trying to give a voice to everyone..."
I suppose my first question would be why is a conservative foundation specializing in extremely lean pseudo-journalism courses funding a supposedly independent newspaper for Marquette?
In addition, a quick perusal of the stories on the website, and I'd assume in the actual printed rag, express a victimhood rarely seen even in people with low self-esteem. It appears to be the impetus of The Warrior to incite controversy rather than serve an actual public service to the Marquette and Milwaukee community. Their name itself indicates a penchant for replaying old debates. After changing the nickname of the school in July 1994 from Warriors to Golden Eagles, the ensuing shitstorm of criticism for changing what was clearly an insensitive nickname resulted in anger among alumni that still persists to this day. After an offer of $1,000,000 by Wayne Sanders, former Kimberly-Clark exec and Marquette Alumni, during his 2004 commencement speech to change the nickname back to the Warriors, the shitstorm resurfaced until this past summer (let's not get into that sub-shitstorm).
With articles proclaiming the awesomeness of Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged and a heart felt opinion piece lamenting on the conservative flotsam that the author is among the liberal sea at Marquette, perhaps some more eye shadow and black clothing, with some Cure albums thrown in to boot, would be more fitting than the war paint and camouflage pants seen in the above picture.
